I’m actually serious!
If you want to lose weight, the biggest secret without any more exact plan is to just stop eating junk, start eating more fruits, veggies and whole grains (like brown rice, brown pasta, whole wheat bread without any sugar or processed nastiness added) and move around a little more. And that doesn’t need to mean slaving away at a gym. Maybe just taking a bicycle or a walk instead of your car every now and then, taking the stair instead of the elevator, using a further away restroom at work, things like that.
There you go, there you have it. You’ve probably hear it before. But let me actually explain to you why and make this sound a little more compelling… and if you need more guidance than that, we’ll get to that as well, I promise
All this has a whole bunch of reasons. Eating processed foods is not good for you because you can’t properly digest it. It just gets kinda stuck in your body, leaves a lot of toxic waste, starts rotting and fermenting in your intestine and all the good stuff. It is usually way too high in sugar, salt and/or fat which is addicting and causes you to over eat. So you consume things that cause you to become more overweight by themselves and then you can’t even stop eating them. Your body just gets programmed to want more and more of those kinds of foods and anything with less salt, sugar or fat content doesn’t feel right.
Your brain will tell you that this stuff (namely “normal” things like salads, vegetables or fruits) don’t fill you up. And it’s asking for the things it really wants, the pleasure stuff. It’s a vicious cycle breaking out of which is very hard like about everyone trying to lose weight has experienced before. Fruits and Veggies just aren’t attractive and they don’t seem to fill you up. So you fall back into old habits quickly. It’s happened to the best and it’s ok! You CAN break it if you really want to and especially if you understand that this is just a brain response, not real hunger, even if it feel like it (our brain is pretty clever, it can not only make you THINK you’re hungry, it can even stimulate parts of your body to send out physical signals!).
It’s like getting off any other drug addiction. It sucks at first and most likely you will need help and support at first. That’s ok, we’re here for you!
The other problem with junk food is that it really doesn’t have most of the nutrients your body needs to function properly. As a result you’re likely feeling tired a lot, lack focus, have a hard time concentrating, suck at exercising, feel like crap when you get up in the morning and can’t go without a cup of coffee to get you started… right?
Right. That alongside with often a myriad of other health problems like auto immune diseases, and the like. And even if you think you’re feeling ok, that’s just because you’ve gotten used to feeling bad and it’s become normal! That should be even more shocking.
Question. Do you have young kids? Or have you been around any lately? Ever noticed how much energy they have?
Yeah. That’s what our bodies are meant to be like. That’s what they ARE like if you feed yourself right. The major difference between a jumpingball of a child and you isn’t age. Or at least not at the root. The real problem is a “clean” body. Remove all the junk, and you’ll get THAT kind of energy back. Really!
